NYFW Round Up: Top Designers, Collaborations, a Neon Carnival & New Looks for 2017

It’s possible that each year NYFW tries to outdo itself, this spring/summer 2017 show was no exception. While we are in full fall fashion mode, the new fashion season is giving so much life. While there were a plethora of designers, we were swooning over – we curated our top designers looks fresh off the runway. This season the fashion festival was born, adult entertainment made its debut, and Gigi Hadid unveiled her first fashion line, a capsule collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger. No doubt, this NYFW took our breath away and slayed us with fashion forward looks, based in athleisure.

Our top picks for these years NYFW? Alexander Wang, Yeezy Season 4, DKNY and HBA and Gigi x Tommy collection. While these collections were unique in design, the prevalent theme was athleisure. From new models, Teyana Taylor and Sofia Ritchie to Lourdes Maria, NYFW as all about fresh fashion and sporty gear for spring.

With a unique look and design, Alexander Wang is the epitome of street wear. The deconstructed, gender fluid Gen-Z fashion was inspired by throwback looks of the 00’s. A cool mix of wrap around cropped tees, lingerie inspired looks and bodycon sporty pieces. The presentation was set to female MC, Mariah Lynns ” Once Upon a Time.”  The runway show music by Jesse Marco is also available via Apple Music. The presentation included a three-collection show, ready-to-wear, resort and Adidas. #WangFest took off, with a mesmerizing runway show and after party performance by K-Pop Queen CL. Front Row, included: Nicki Minaj, Pamela Anderson, Madonna, and Die Antwoord’s Ninja and Yolandi Visser.

One of the most anticipated presentations of NYFW; Yeezy Season 4 once again gave us a range in athleisure meets sportswear looks. With a beautiful cast of multiracial, black beauties, the collection was presented on a triangle runway. Oversized hoodies, fitted body-con garments, in a range of browns, nudes and black. Sofia Ritchie and Teyana Taylor made their modeling debut on the runway along with a cast of models, Alanna Arrington, Grace Bol, Lameka Fox and Mical Bockru and including Yeezy favorite Amina Blue. The runway show was streamed live via Tidal. Front row included: Carine Roitfeld, Pharrell, 2 Chainz, Pusha T, Desiigner and La La Anthony.

Redefining sportif, DKNY dropped a modern and futuristic presentation, NEO Soho. With fashion based in athleisure looks of the future. Each piece was curated by Public School duo Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi debut. As creative directors of DKNY, the collection is infused with the duos aesthetic. The collection includes oversized garments, cycle shorts, parkas, mesh and spandex, in a monochrome and primary colors dawned by classic beauty Bella Hadid. So spring ready, we can’t wait to see our favorite “It Girls” in these looks, our bets are on Rihanna and Ariana Grande.

Shayne Oliver’s uber, cool kid brand, HBA debuted their 2017 collection at NYFW this season with a slightly controversial show. In collaboration with Arca , the idea of tour merch became a reality on the runway. Known for avante gaurde street wear, the label presented a collection filled with sexual innuendos and the new cowboy boot. Wench; the duos moniker was prevalent throughout the collection on the cuff of hooded blazers, on button-downs that were styled into sexy halter-neck tops and backless blouses. Adult entertainment powerhouses; Hustler and Porn Hub were used as logos in the collection, on color blocked polo shirts. Oversized jump suits and tees were the aesthetic and dominated the runway.  Front row squad included: Naomi Campbell, Jaden Smith, will.i.am, and rappers Rick Ross and Juicy J.

Gigi Hadid debuted her collaboration with Tommy Hilfigure at NYFW, via shoppable live stream. The neon carnival was erected, known as Tommy Pier and hosted a whopping 2,000 guests. Perfectly branded and carnival ready, there were games, food and temporary tattoos. The capsule collection is filled with new, stylish nautical looks. The line featured tailored, high-waisted trousers, cool cropped bomber jackets, luxe leather leggings, and of course, athleisure gear. The full collection is available via ASOS; we can’t wait to add these pieces to our spring wardrobe!
